New research program on the SilverFit Rephagia
"A Dutch health care organisation (Stichting de Trans) will start a new swallow therapy programme for people with multiple disabilities. The new swallow therapy will be provided with The SilverFit Rephagia. This technological device measures the activity of the client's muscles and visualizes the swallowing response to be able to actively train the swallowing function." This was part of the announcement about the study that will start in 2017 directed by Sophia Helmhout (speech and language pathologist). This clinical scientific research will examine the added value of the SilverFit Rephagia for treating swallowing problems specifically for people with multiple disabilities.
The SilverFit Rephagia is already used worldwide in geriatric healthcare to treat swallowing disorders (dysphagia). Using this system, clients get valuable insights into their swallowing performance through biofeedback. The biofeedback can be visualized in game-like exercises that are easy for the client to understand. As verbal instructions are difficult to understand for many people with multiple disabilities it might be a good solution to offer swallow therapy for this patient group as well. You can read the full announcement here (only available in Dutch).
