COPD user meeting successful!
Last week we've had our COPD user meeting in Harmelen. We were overwhelmed with the many people being interested to hear more about what can be done to improve the well-being of people being diagnosed with COPD. With a group of 75 (geriatric) physiotherapists and health professionals, several high-end presentations and lively workshops we called it a very successful meeting.
Anouk Vaes, a movement scientist and physiotherapist at CIRO (Center for expertise of chronic organ failure) kicked off our meeting with her presentation. She presented several research outcomes, including the results from her own PhD, that prove the importance of daily physical activity for patients diagnosed with COPD. Peter Klijn (clinical exercise physiologist, senior researcher and research coordinator at Merem, treatment centre Heideheuvel) shared several studies to present the positive effect when training sessions are offered of varied duration, varied volume and varied intensity.
The SilverFit systems can be used very well to support training sessions for patients suffering from COPD. Kris de Kinderen (physiotherapist at De Wever) and Malou Verheijen (geriatric physiotherapist at the Wever/SilverFit) presented how they use SilverFit systems during their treatment sessions for COPD patients. Joris Wiersinga, founder of SilverFit, made known that SilverFit systems will get even more more features tailored to this target group, for example to implement more interval exercises. He also introduced the SilverFit Flow; our newest development to support game based flow therapy.
During workshops people could experience how COPD feels like. Breathing through one straw, having a clip on your nose and doing exercises at the same time was way more difficult than expected. "It makes you think about every breathe you take". During these workshops people could experience working with the SilverFit Flow and many ideas and suggestions were taken for further development. In two other workshops participants exchanged practical ideas how to make best use of SilverFit System.
