About 1 in 10 Dutch people have a moderate or severe physical or mental disability. Society provides insufficient opportunities for sport and exercise for this group. However, exercise is crucial, with positive effects on physical and mental health (Kennisbank sport en bewegen, 2023).
At SilverFit, we advocate more fun exercise for these clients. This is why we have designed our systems with this target group in mind.
The SilverFit Alois was originally developed for people with dementia. In practice, this system has also been used for years within disability care. This is because the SilverFit Alois is designed to be easy to use and has a wide range of activities so that there is always something to do, see and talk about. This ensures sociability and fun in everyday life. It can remove the barrier to exercise for people with intellectual disabilities.

In addition, every exercise in the SilverFit 3D is adjustable to the appropriate physical and cognitive level of the client. For example, you can set up a game for someone with a right leg amputation. This allows people with physical disabilities to stay motivated to exercise.

Cycling helps maintain and train fitness and strength. Cycling with a route film of the SilverFit Mile makes therapy more fun, thereby increasing compliance and clients want to exercise for longer per session (Rhodes et al., 2009, Pisica et al., 2016). The SilverFit Mile can be used during therapy under the guidance of a physiotherapist or exercise instructor, but can also be placed in an auditorium or common room. Because of the SilverFit Mile’s large, bright screen, the route films also attract the attention of others who are not yet exercising. The routes can be cycled individually or in groups and always spark fun conversations!
